SFRCC and the Trust for Public Land (TPL), among others, are working to develop this community asset with the support of the City of Santa Fe, the State of New Mexico, and the Governor's Economic Development Initiative.

Urban Think Tank

Founded in 1993, in Caracas, Venezuela by Alfredo Brillembourg, The Urban Think Tank is a multi-disciplinary design practice dedicated to high-level research and design on a variety of subjects, concerned with contemporary architecture and urbanism. The philosophy of the UTT is to deliver innovative yet practical solutions through the combined skills of architects, civil engineers, environmental planners, landscape architects, and communication specialists.

Informal City: Caracas Case is the result of an extraordinary urban research project undertaken in the Venezuelan capital, with sponsorship of the German Federal Cultural Foundation (Kulturstiftung des Bundes). A combination of first-hand observations, analyses, accounts of the implementation of test programs and prototypes, and visual and verbal reports on research projects, the publication both confirms and explodes the prevailing myths about formality and informality, about First and Third Worlds, and about the roles of architecture, urban planning, and community organization in a dynamic and changing environment. The conclusions drawn by the authors and editors have significant implications not only for the future of Caracas and other Latin American mega-cities, but for any metropolis, anywhere in the world, as well as for our understanding of the very nature of “city.”

MoMA - Architecture & Design

The world's first curatorial department devoted to architecture and design was established in 1932 at The Museum of Modern Art. From its inception, the collection has been built on the recognition that architecture and design are allied and interdependent arts, so that synthesis has been a founding premise of the collection. Including 28,000 works ranging from large-scale design objects to works on paper and architectural models, the Museum’s diverse Architecture and Design collection surveys major figures and movements from the mid-nineteenth century to the present. Starting with the reform ideology established by the Arts and Crafts movement, the collection covers major movements of the twentieth century and contemporary issues. The architecture collection documents buildings through models, drawings, and photographs, and includes the Mies van der Rohe Archive. The design collection comprises thousands of objects, ranging from appliances, furniture, and tableware to tools, textiles, sports cars—even a helicopter. The graphic design collection includes noteworthy examples of typography, posters, and other combinations of text and image.

fab prefab

Predominant mass-market housing programs such as project homes or tract housing largely fail to meet the desires of people who appreciate a modernist design aesthetic. Custom-designed modernist architecture is beyond the financial reach of many people and so prefab is viewed as a design and production ideology that has the potential to deliver affordable modernism. While kit or prefab homes have been available in a range of either "traditional" or "alternative" forms for many years, surprisingly few prefab homes exist that truly embrace modernist ideals.
